Healing Powers of the Sea and Salt
More than 2000 years ago, the Greek physician Hippocrates, the godfather of medicine, described how to use seawater for healing. Even long before that, back in biblical times, the myth of the healing power of the legendary “White Gold” was described. Kings and queens are said to have made long trips for a bath in the Dead Sea with its high salt content of up to 33%.
The healing powers of the Dead Sea have been used for centuries in treating numerous diseases. Although the healing properties of the Dead Sea have not been fully explored to this day, physicians are certain that the salt from the Dead Sea helps with respiratory diseases.
For respiratory diseases, an inhalation with salt water or brine is often recommended. “Inhalation with brine causes the mucous membranes to swell and is anti-inflammatory. It has the effect that secretion can be coughed off better and the urge to cough is softened, “explains Prof. Jürgen Kleinschmidt, Vice President of the Association for Spa and Climate Studies in Bonn. With regular use one can thus alleviate existing diseases significantly.
The possibilities to inhale salt are very diverse; for example, rehabilitation stays at the ocean, inhalation in graduation towers, salt grottos or the usual fogging devices, in which the affected person inhales the active ingredients through a mask.
But who has the Dead Sea on their doorsteps? Which person lives next to a graduation tower and which child would not rejoice when allowed to inhale without a mask, as it is much more pleasant?
